Cold composting
Learn how cold composting works, why it matters, and what makes Hembased fundamentally different from most filaments on the market.
A Credible End-of-Life Starts with the Raw Material
How it works
Print your part
Print your design using Hembased 3D filament.
Use It as Intended
Use your printed object just like any other 3D printed product.
Break It into Smaller Pieces
Reduce the object into smaller pieces to support faster decomposition.
Cold Compost
Place it in your compost and let nature do the rest.
Why Cold Composting?
Most 3D printing materials are designed primarily with technical performance in mind. Cold composting starts from a different perspective. It is based on a material trajectory that allows the product to naturally break down under outdoor composting conditions rather than depending on industrial composting systems to remain environmentally relevant.
Palm Leaf Residual Streams as the Starting Point
Hembased begins with a raw material sourced from naturally fallen palm leaves rather than virgin materials or agricultural crops. These leaves are collected, dried and processed into a fine powder instead of being burned as waste. This creates a transparent and credible material origin that businesses can confidently communicate throughout their supply chain.
A Different Polymer Matrix Than Standard PLA
The material is developed from palm leaf-derived raw materials using an innovative polymer matrix rather than a conventional blend. The result is a monomaterial structure that can be tailored for different applications while delivering stronger technical performance and a more distinctive market position than conventional filament.
Designed for an End-of-Life Beyond Industrial Composting
Cold composting is developed for practical use outside industrial composting systems. Whenever an end product no longer serves its purpose, users can choose outdoor composting or other circular processing routes instead of relying exclusively on industrial facilities. This makes cold composting a practical solution rather than a purely theoretical concept.
Cold composting is more than an innovative concept. It represents a conscious design philosophy.
It encourages product teams to consider communication, end-of-life and material responsibility much earlier in the development process. For businesses, this provides stronger support for sustainability claims, compliance requirements and brand credibility. For makers, it offers a more responsible material choice for prototypes, educational projects, product development and everyday 3D printing.
